More and more mobile android powered devices enter the market, but the number of netbooks and bigger devices running the android operating system out of the box is still very small. Google itself seems to put more energy in the development of Chrome OS than on porting the droid to the x86 platform. But there is hope! The guys over at android-x86.org are working hard on exactly that task.

The team of Android-x86.org has put together a stable version of Android 1.6 for the x86 platform. You can find the stable versions in our download section or directly on their website.

Yesterday night Google did, what the Android open source community has been waiting for weeks: they pushed the source tree of the upcoming Android 2.0 to the open source repository.

Only hours after this happened, the hackers have already ported it to the G1! As the hacker Cyanogen writes in Twitter: "It runs really well, fast and smooth. Audio and video not working yet though." And he even shows the community some screenshots:

Looks nice! Now we're waiting for the first available port to x86!

Yesterday Google released the source code for Chrome OS. Will this be a competitor for Android on x86?
